Sites We've Designed

Web Design by Cookie has developed sites on the Internet for a variety of different purposes and client needs. These web sites are also housed on a variety of different web servers on various computer platforms. The company also designs and maintains several personal web sites. Listed below are some of the sites designed by WDBC and a brief description. Those sites with two screen shot pictures are before and after WDBC's design. Those sites with one screen shot are original WDBC designs. In addition to these custom sites, numerous individuals have saved money by utilizing one of our customizable do-it-yourself Instant Websites™ which are available for viewing and purchase in the Site Show Gallery.

3 Little Chefs

3 Little ChefsThe latest site designed by WDBC was for a small, family run business based in South Windham, Connecticut called the 3 Little Chefs. After achieving success in Eastern Connecticut through some limited marketing and selling products at fairs and markets, the 3 Little Chefs wanted to expand their audience to the World Wide Web. Initially They wanted a site to sell a few handful of products but quickly realized that a full ecommerce solution was needed but, they had a tight budget. Since resources were limited, we found and installed a powerful, off the shelf, ecommerce package that would allow the 3 Little Chefs to grow online. Using ClickCart Pro, a robust Perl based shopping cart application, we were able to develop the 3 Little Chefs ecommerce store and integrate real-time credit card processing, online ordering features, tracking, and a whole lot more! The site implements apache mod-rewrite to make the shopping cart application more search engine spider friendly and features a MySQL database, searchable product catalog, access restricted online store management backend and custom error pages. WDBC also developed their logo and took many of the product photos. The site is hosted by HostRocket, a WDBC hosting partner.

Connecticut Assets Network

Connecticut Assets Network RedesignConnecticut Assets Network is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization funded primarily by the Connecticut Department of Mental Health & Addiction Services. The organization promotes positive youth development by building strong and healthy families and communities.

The Connecticut Assets Network web site, run on ColdFusion server, features a Microsoft Access Database, full search capabilities, a list serv, and an acess restricted online management area where the organization can add resource sites to their "Assets Across America" database and manage other feature content. The site is a great resource for community development for Connecticut families. It is hosted with a WDBC hosting partner.

Community Psychology Network

CPN The Community Psychology Network (CPN) was the second site designed by WDBC and continues to be a work in progress. The site is run on the Red Hat Linux platform with an Apache Web Server. The site employs a variety of Perl and CGI scripts for site interactivity. Scripts include: a guest book, a search engine, a form mailer, the WebBBS script, an advertising script, and a script for signing on to the CPN e-mailing list. The site also employs some Java and JavaScripts here and there. The CPN site contains approximately 50 pages and contains links to a variety of organizations, discussion lists, resources, books, journals, etc. The Community Psychology Network receives approximately 5000 visitors a month and is at the top of many of the most popular search engines’ category for community psychology. The picture to the right is the site's first design over 2 years ago as well as its current state.

Department of Community Medicine & Health Care

UCHC Commed Directory As a member of the Department of Community Medicine & Health Care at the University of Connecticut Health Center, Matt undertook the task of developing the department's web site. He developed the design, layout, and text. He also developed a searchable on-line directory of employee phone, fax, and email addresses. The directory piece of the site queries information from a relational database (Access 97) and delivers the information dynamically to the end user’s web browser using Microsoft’s Active Server Page (ASP) technology. ASP technology allows you to update a database and once the database is saved the new information is immediately available on the web site. It is very useful in updating information that is constantly changing like directory information or product inventories. The ODBC database is housed on the departmental server and was developed in Access ’97. Standard pages of the directory site include listings of faculty members, staff members, e-mail addresses, web pages, etc. The directory is also fully searchable through a standard web interface. The directory is housed on a Windows NT machine with a Microsoft IIS server. Pictured is the site's original design and look. Matt currently serves as the department's webmaster and manages the main department site as well as several of the department's individual unit's sites.

Fairfield University Student Psychological Association

FUSPAThe Fairfield University Student Psychological Association (FUSPA) web site was the first site that WDBC had designed. It is very basic and currently only contains one web page. The current executive board members of the association now maintain the site. The site was designed for a Unix Apache Web Server held at Fairfield University. The site contains information about the association’s mission, members, executive board, current and past events, dues, contact information, and related links. The site is currently housed on Geocities.com, a free web site hosting company. Pictured to the left is Matt's original site of over four years ago juxtaposed to the current Web Design by Cookie redesigned FUSPA site.

Governor's Prevention Initiative for Youth

FUSPAMatthew Cook, President of WDBC, has been developing a web site for the Governor's Prevention Initiative for Youth, a grant to the State of Connecticut from the federal Center for Substance Abuse Prevention. The initiative is a $9 million grant to the state to coordinate and redirect substance abuse prevention monies along the principles of science-based prevention practices. The web site supports the initiative by providing information about the project, evaluation components, news, events, RFP, and other facets of the 3 year grant. The Governor's Prevention Initiative for Youth web site is housed on a Windows NT machine running Microsoft's IIS web server. Although this project is not a WDBC project per say, it is one that Matt has under taken in another capacity. He was responsible for the planning, design and implementation of the site throughout the grant's life. It is currently maintained by the DMHAS Prevention Unit.

Electronic Commerce Solutions, LLC

Electronic Commerce Solutions Web Design by Cookie was approached by Brien A. Sandstrom, owner of Electronic Commerce Solutions, LLC to develop a web site for his company highlighting his services as an eBusiness intregrator with extensive B2B and Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) experience. The site designed as on-line resume mimics Mr. Sandstrom's off-line print porfolio. The site is small but fulfilled Mr. Sandstrom's needs as a means to provide his electronic commerce and EDI profile in a quick efficient manner to potential customers as well as to be able to follow up with potential clients who view his site. He was looking for a simple site that he could easily maintain in the future. The site, on a Unix/Linux box, is hosted with a provider that Mr. Sandstrom had arranged.

Health Services Research Unit

HSR Currently, WDBC is working on a research unit’s web site in the Department of Community Medicine & Health Care at the University of Connecticut Health Center. The site will contain information about the research unit’s mission statement, vision, core faculty and staff members, current research projects, staff directory, internship opportunities, and various other pieces of information. The Health Services Research Unit web site is also housed on a Windows NT machine running the Microsoft IIS Web Server. Pictured is the site's original design.

Hersh and Fowler-Cruz, LLP

Working in collaboration with Squeo Design, the graphic design firm responsible for creating Hersh and Fowler-Cruz, LLP's new corporate identity, and Greg Voornas, a copywriter, the newest of the WDBC designed sites compliments Hersh and Fowler-Cruz's off-line materials for a seemless brand image. Based on the lawfirm's brochure, the site lauched hfclawfirm.com in October, 2002 and was a redesign of a previous website. The site includes a number of notable techical features -- a custom designed search engine to search the site's content and several database-driven areas. The database-driven areas including an "Ask an Attorney" area which allows visitors to submit questions which will be answered by the members of Hersh and Fowler-Cruz's legal team, custom designed forms to capture and store potential client information, a resource area and an extensive administrative area for maintaining several facets of the site. Subtle features like including the date help to keep the content fresh for visitors. The website is Coldfusion driven on a Windows IIS 5.0 server. Pictured is the redesigned site with its three types of pages. It is hosted by a WDBC hosting partner.

School for Ethical Education

SEE Screen ShotsWDBC has redesigned the School for Ethical Education web site. The School for Ethical Education is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, post-secondary school located in Milford, CT. The site has become much more user friendly, simplied, and presents a web presence that is congruent with the organizations newsletter and other print materials. The site is hosted on a Windows NT machine running the MS IIS server. WDBC continues to manage and maintain the site, however the WDBC does not host this site.

Seventh Biennial Conference on Community Research & Action

Biennial The Seventh Biennial Conference on Community Research & Action’s web site is a component of the Community Psychology Network. The biennial web site was an endeavor that I was thankful to take on when the Society for Community Research & Action’s (Division 27 of the American Psychological Association) Local Planning Committee for the conference approached me to work with them to develop a web site. The conference is international and expects to draw approximately 1000 community psychologists, prevention researchers, public health workers, community leaders and non-profit workers to the New Haven area for this four-day conference. The web site does not use any fancy features or scripts due to the nature of its audience (i.e. busy academics who basically just want easy access to information). The site has information about the conference’s call for programs, registration, keynote speakers, conference site, as well as information about the sponsoring organizations. Pictured is a redesign of the site once the logo was developed.
